Labrador= Plant Data Mining Project

Progress update:

 

 

The project is now i= n its 18th week of the 28 week project. The following has tasks have been completed to date:

 

  • Extensive literature searches on Labrador plant information
  • Collection of applicable scientific litera= ture and scientific reports
  • Old plant literature bibliography annotate= d
  • Project timeline completed
  • Voisey’s Bay Environmental baseline technical reports obtained
  • Some Trans-Labrador Highway project reports obtained
  • Various important knowledgeable people con= tacted including Nathalie Djan-Chekar, Luise Hermanutz, John Maunder, Michael Berzynski and Henry Mann
  • Database template received
  • UBC online herbarium records added to data= base
  • 2000 Trans-Labrador Highway data added to database<= /li>
  • Contact made with Walter Kittredge at Harvard University concerning amount = of plant records
  • Met with Nathalie Djan-Chekar in St. John’s and confirmed that data from L= aval Flora of Northern Quebec and Labrador project will be shared with this project
  • Met with Luise Hermanutz=
  • Searched archives at the Rooms for data
  • Terry Hedderson specimens from NFLD added = to database
  • Shared completed file of Terry Hedderson specimens with The Rooms and NFLD
  • Communicated with T. Hedderson regarding location methods
  • Various extensive data added to database including NYBG online herbarium records, several G. Brassard papers, D. Wells paper, and a paper by Ireland)
  • Presented progress update to senior staff<= o:p>
  • Constructed list/table of herbaria contain= ing Labrador plant specimens which is near complet= ion pending responses from a few herbaria (list includes 19 herbaria)=
  • Communicated with herbarium at University of M= ontreal and will receive data for more than 2000 records of Labrador plants
  • Over 600 records from Voisey’s Bay 1= 996 Environmental Baseline Technical Data Report added to database
  • Approximately 1000 records from DAO (compi= led by Marilyn Anions) to be added to database
  • Attended workshop on Exotic and Invasive S= pecies
  • Current working database near 6000 records=
